Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Are you attending LAK21?
Please review our attendee user guides below which gives in-depth information regarding Whova & Gather.town, our two conference platforms.
No, due to moving online, we will be altering the schedule to follow our traditional LAK schedule of Monday - Friday. Pre-conference events will now be held on Monday & Tuesday, April 12 & 13 and the main conference will take place Wednesday - Friday, April 14 - 16.
However, please keep in mind our schedule is built based on submissions. Until we know the final submission number and have a final acceptance rate, the schedule is subject to change. We ask all authors and attendees to hold these dates for presenting and attending. As we get closer to the event, final program times will be shared. A final program is traditionally shared prior to the close of early bird registration which ends on February 25, 2021.
We hope to see you online Monday - Friday, April 12 - 16, 2021!
Yes, please see the registration page for more information.
For this year's conference, one of our main objectives is to increase the level of networking opportunities for all LAK participants. So this year we will be using two platforms to provide all attendees with a well-rounded conference experience.
For the main conference program and paper presentations, we will be using Whova which has a web application as well as a mobile app. In Whova, you'll be able to build out your personal agenda, view recordings if you missed a session, chat with other attendees during sessions with the chat feature and more.
For *most* networking sessions and breaks, we will be using Gather.town. Gather.town is a fun, laid back virtual venue that we have customized for LAK21. It's a web-conferencing software that pairs video-calling with our virtual venue and allows you to chat and discuss with individuals right next to you!
Join us for some scheduled events in Gather.town such as roundtable discussions, live poster sessions, coffee breaks and even beach yoga! Plus, once the conference has started, hop into the venue at any time and see if you run into any other LAK participants and start up a conversation!
Here is our LAK21 Attendee User Guide, please read carefully for detailed information on how to access Whova and Gather.town and how to use both platforms. *Conference platforms are only accessible to Registered LAK Attendees*
We will be launching Whova and Gather.town the week before the conference starts. This will allow all attendees 5-7 days to log-in to both Whova and Gather.town, explore both platforms and ask any questions that they may have. We will also be providing guides and instructions on how to use each platform.
Technically no. However, if you register after March 31st, you risk delaying your access to the LAK21 conference platforms. We recommend registering no later than March 31 to ensure that you gain access to both conference platforms and are able to test your log-ins and try out the functionality of each before the conference starts.
Based on our planned geographic location of California, we are basing our main conference time zone as Pacific Daylight Time for the duration of the conference April 12-16, 2021. However, each day of the conference has a different start and end time to attempt to accommodate as many community members as possible. The main conference agenda can be found here: http://lak21.solaresearch.org/schedule
We attempted to organize the program that for at least one day out of three that each time zone would be able to participate for most of that day. For instance, Day 1 is suited for Asia/Pacific, Day 2 for Europe/Africa and Day 3 for the Americas. In addition, all paper presentations will be recorded and posted within Whova. Recordings will be available for up to 6 months post-event within the Whova platform. Poster/Demos can be viewed asynchronously within Whova. Participants can ask questions before, during and after presentations and we have social events planned at several different times throughout the conference.
If you have a special need or request, please email lakconference@gmail.com as soon as possible and we will try our best to accommodate.
Within Whova, you will be able to view all attendees that have signed off on being listed within Whova.
