LASI 19 is co-hosted by the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University and the event will take place on the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver Campus. Please review this page to learn more about the LASI 19 event venue including rooms, buildings and distance from recommended accommodations and travel information on how to get to UBC from the Vancouver airport and how to get around once you are on the UBC campus.
Note: The UBC Vancouver campus is 20-30 minutes by car from Downtown Vancouver and 20-30 minutes by car from the Vancouver International Airport. Uber/Lyft or similar ride share companies do not operate in Vancouver. Please plan accordingly.
If you want to take a taxi, there is 24-hour taxi service from the airport. Taxis leaving the airport for destinations around the region, including UBC, use a set price zone fare system.
By public transport
The Canada Line is a rapid-transit system that runs from the airport to downtown Vancouver. The Canada Line does not go to UBC but to get to campus, get off at Broadway City Hall and take the 99 B-Line bus marked “UBC” to the end of the line.
You can plan your public transit trip before you arrive at the airport. Please use “UBC Exchange” as your “Going To” destination in the trip planner. The train does not go all the way to UBC therefore you will get off and take a bus to the UBC Exchange. The trip planner will provide you with full transfer details, schedule and estimated fare costs.
Depending on the day of the week and time you are leaving the airport, the cost of public transit from the airport ranges from $7.75 to $9.00.
By renting a car
Car rental companies are located just steps from the terminal on the ground floor of the airport’s parkade.
Please note exact locations are subject to change.

Eating at UBC – As UBC is about 30 minutes from Downtown Vancouver, here is a helpful guide to find out what UBC eateries are open right now, called UBC Feed Me Now. There are also other non-UBC eateries within walking distance to campus, here’s a google search that will have both listed. Just be sure to check that they are open before heading over, as many places may have different hours or may not be open due to the summer months.
