The Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at Florida State University is seeking an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies (ISLT) program, one of the first in the world to offer graduate degrees in the field. The current program offers MS (campus, online), EdD (online), and PhD (campus) degrees as well as several graduate certificates. ISLT has a strong focus on instructional systems design, emerging learning technologies, and performance improvement. We prepare practitioners to analyze complex learning and performance problems and to design, develop, and evaluate appropriate solutions to improve learning and performance. We also prepare scholars to identify and pursue important research questions and conduct rigorous studies on learning and performance. The roots of FSU’s College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences date back to the university’s establishment, and it is the oldest college of its kind in Florida. Recently expanded in 2023, the College is home to six academic departments united through a common goal to maximize human potential. In total, the College includes the Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies, Department of Educational Psychology & Learning Systems, Department of Health, Nutrition, and Food Sciences, Department of Human Development & Family Science, Department of Sport Management, School of Teacher Education, numerous research centers, and three laboratory schools (Florida State University School, FSU Pembroke Pines Charter School, and The Collegiate School at FSU Panama City). The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences serves over 4,000 students via 201 full-time faculty and 76 full-time staff.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a robust program of research in instructional systems and learning technologies, including publishing in top-tier journals.
  • Pursue external funding opportunities.
  • Develop and teach graduate-level courses in online, face-to-face, and blended learning environments.
  • Mentor graduate students, serve on graduate student committees, and supervise graduate student research.
  • Play an integral role in collaborating with colleagues, students, and alumni to maintain a strong program community and identity.
  • Provide leadership and service to the program, department, college, university, and profession.

Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies or closely related field from an accredited university.
  • A clearly articulated research focus with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and external funding, as appropriate to time in field.
  • Experience teaching in online, blended, and/or face-to-face settings. Adept at teaching and designing instruction using the principles of universal design, ethical design processes, and a wide variety of learning technologies, inclusive of and considering the needs of global audiences.

Candidates for Associate or Full Professor should have:

  • A focused body of empirical scholarship that has recognized impact and is widely cited in the field.
  • Prior experience mentoring doctoral students and serving in leadership positions for their program, department, college, university, and profession.
  • Demonstrated success in securing external funding.
